Update fromĀ Misko Cubrinovski – TC203 chair

TC203 (earthquake geotechnical engineering and associated problems) was quite active at three levels, through the overall TC203 membership, the TC203 Advisory Group composed of previous Ishihara lecturers and TC203 chairs, and the current leadership team. In 2020 TC203 selected the 8th Ishihara Lecturer for 2021 (Misko Cubrinovski) and the recipients of the TC203 Young Research Award (Adda Athanasopoulos-Zekkos and Rui Wang) who will present their lectures at PBD-IV, Beijing, 15-17 July 2022. Ross Boulanger and Susumu Iai were selected to deliver the TC203 state-of-the-art lecture at the ISSMGE Conference in Sydney. 150 TC203 abstracts have been accepted for this conference including 15 from New Zealand, which will be organized in five TC203 sessions. TC203 is also co-organizing a joint session on tailings together with TC101, TC102 and TC221.

2020 was a very difficult year worldwide. A significant effort was made to reschedule our regular TC203 conferences. The new and final dates for the PBD-IV Int. Conf. on Performance-Based Design in Earthquake Geotechnical Engineering, which will be held in Beijing, are 15-17 July 2022. We will soon announce the dates for the 8ICEGE, which will be held in Osaka. The Proceeding from 7ICEGE (Rome, June 2019) are now available at the ISSMGE online library (https://www.issmge.org/publications/online-library). If interested in the subject area and TC203 activities, please join TC203 as a corresponding member (email an expression of interest to secretary@nzgs.org).
