This seminar presents the research outcomes from Dr Garala’s PhD on better understanding the dynamic behaviour of pile foundations in soft clays and layered soils from specifically designed dynamic centrifuge experiments. This talk covers the dynamic behaviour of soft clays and layered soils; importance of kinematic loads in the design of pile foundations and the influence of phase difference between the kinematic and inertial loads on the dynamic behaviour of pile foundations.

Dr. Thejesh Garala is presently employed as an offshore Geotechnical Consultant at Fugro, UK, and he obtained his PhD from the University of Cambridge, UK in 2020. Dr. Garala has been honored with several awards, such as the ‘Turner Prize’ by the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge in 2018, and a ‘Silver Medal’ by IITH in 2015.
