SH2 has developed into a busy commuter and freight route which is also an important tourist link for the northern Bay of Plenty and Coromandel Peninsula. It is also one of New Zealand’s highest risk rural roads with a poor safety record. Takitimu North Link Stage 1 aims to improve traffic flows and safety by connecting Tauranga and Te Puna with a new four lane expressway and shared path. Construction is well underway, and the project is about to commence the last season of earthworks
