The first annual Wellington Young Geotechnical Professionals’ (YGPs) one-day symposium is scheduled to occur on Tuesday 6 August 2019.

This is the perfect opportunity for Wellington based YGPs to gain experience presenting a project or area of research to their peers in a supportive environment while learning from each other’s experiences and networking.

This year, the mini Symposium will be combined with the one-day NZGS course on “Geotechnical Engineering in Residual Soils” that will be held in Wellington on Monday 5 August 2019. The cost of the Symposium is $250 plus GST. For those who register for both the YGP Symposium and the one-day short Course, the course will be offered at a special price of $180 plus GST. Initial information on the one-day short course can be found here: https://nzgs-old.digitalmachine.co.nz/event/geotechnical-engineering-in-residual-soils-2/ .

If you are under the age of 35 or has less than 10 years of work experience as of midnight on 31 December 2019, and keen to take part, please submit an abstract (limited to 200 words) of your proposed presentation to https://forms.gle/ZsiB9pAjiCk8KxTn8. The deadline for this submission is Monday 8 July 2019. Priority will be given to YGPs in the Wellington region, but other regions will also be considered.

There will be a vote for the top three presentations. The top three presentations will be awarded a prize. The top presentation will be presented in a special YGP session in the 2020 NZGS Symposium “Good grounds for the future” that will be in Dunedin between 15 and 17 October 2020.

Please do not hesitate to contact the symposium organisers via email (wgtnygp@gmail.com) if you have any further questions regarding this exciting event!
