The geotechnical industry in New Zealand has been facing challenges for a while, related to the education of geo-professionals (geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists) and finding suitably skilled workforce locally.
An initial panel discussion was held in the 14th quadrennial AGS and NZGS joint Conference on Geomechanics in Cairns in July 2023, and the results were issued in the December 2023 Geomechanics News.

Following on from this initiative, the New Zealand Geotechnical Society is taking further action to engage with its members and relevant stakeholders to further explore these issues. The objective is to finalise a position and an action plan for NZGS that will include the different perspectives and to advocate for improvement.

Please join us for the first panel discussion in New Zealand that will be held in Wellington on the 1st of May. The panel members will introduce the problem and provide short presentations on the different perspectives. The primary aim is to hear your thoughts, concerns, ideas, and recommendations.
