NZGS and the BOKS working group have now completed the draft version of the Professional Engineering Geologist (PEngGeol) Body of Knowledge and Skills (BOKS) and would like feedback from NZGS members on the draft document.

This document defines the core knowledge and skills that a PEngGeol is expected to have in order to competently investigate, analyse and communicate complex engineering geological issues which may arise as the result of the interaction between geology and the construction of engineering works, as well as to assess geological hazards and develop measures for mitigating them, in New Zealand. This Body of Knowledge and Skills (BOKS) is intended to complement and inform the Professional Engineering Geologist assessment process.

The purpose of this BOKS is to:

  • Define the prerequisite skills and knowledge that are required of a PEngGeol;
  • Provide a framework for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and postgraduate training.

Please find the draft PEngGeol Boks Dec 2019 here which will also be circulated in the June edition of the NZ Geomechanics News. If you have any comments or suggestions for improvement please comment below (you must be logged in to comment), or email secretary@nzgs.org
