He angitūtanga: The opportunity

This role will see you utilising your geotechnical expertise when you join our Coastal and Water Allocation team, sitting within the wider Resource Consents department.  You’ll be working with a wide range of customers, assessing and providing specialist geotechnical and hydrogeology technical input.  Primarily, you’ll be providing input to Council’s resource consenting and compliance teams in regards to development that involves the taking and/or diversion of groundwater.  You’ll be working with resource consent applicants and planners to seek the best practical environmental outcomes using a proactive and solution-driven approach. As a Senior, you’ll also be responsible for mentoring junior staff, peer reviewing reports and supporting the team with leadership and coaching where necessary.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You’ll hold a tertiary qualification in environmental science, civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, hydrogeology or another relevant field. Ideally, you’ll have an understanding of the Resource Management Act and other relevant local and national standards and policies, as well as a good understanding of Auckland Council’s regulatory framework, in particular of the Auckland Unitary Plan in regards to groundwater dewatering/diversion . You’ll bring with you proven experience in the provision of high quality, timely, specialist advice, and be competent in critically evaluating complex proposals in resource consent applications.

You’ll have excellent communication, time management, customer service and project management skills, and be adept at establishing and maintaining quality relationships.  You will also be flexible and open to change. As this role does require you to use Council vehicles to travel around the region, you will also need to hold a current, clean NZ driver’s license.
