The title of the lecture is ‘lessons learnt from failures and litigation’. It introduces about a dozen case histories of failures that have occurred, some of which have ended up in litigation. These range from foundation failures, slope failures, excessive settlement, issues of negative skin friction, with a number of claims in excess of £200 million and one of $2 billion.
