Presented by: Denis Tepavac & Kristian Nelson, Delve Underground
The presentation is a case history on the North East Link Project, in Melbourne Australia. The North East Link Project is Australia’s biggest single largest standalone tunnelling project with the primary tunnel package estimated to cost NZD 16.5 Billion.
Focusing on rock mass classification, the presentation explores the methodologies used for characterising rock. It extends to the intricacies of tunnel support design, emphasising the nuanced selection principles for effective support systems. Attendees will gain insight into the geological challenges posed by the infamous Melbourne geology and how these challenges inform support strategies. The presentation amalgamates theoretical principles with practical observations, offering a comprehensive understanding of the geotechnical considerations crucial to successful tunnelling endeavours.
