CETANZ Report – Scala Penetrometer Irregularity

It has come to the attention of the Civil Engineering Testing Association of New Zealand (CETANZ) through its Technical Working Group that there is an irregularity in the size of the shoulder (cylindrical length) of the New
Zealand manufactured scala cones. CETANZ has therefore taken it upon itself to investigate the significance of the difference in dimensions before any change in the manufacture of the cones is suggested.

The implications of this are ….. that current testing may be slightly over estimating CBR.
