Canterbury Technical Clearinghouse Final Meeting

Meeting: 18:00-1930, Tuesday 13 December
Venue: Lecture theatre E8, College of Engineering, University of Canterbury
Presenters: Engineering Advisory Group and others
Hosts: NZSEE, NZGS Canterbury, Canterbury Structural Group
Social: 17:30-18:00 – Engineering Common Room

Yesterday, the Department of Building and Housing announced that it has published its “Revised guidance on repairing and rebuilding houses affected by the Canterbury earthquake sequence”. This supersedes the guidance document issued almost one year ago. Please read it on their website before the meeting (we are most likely meeting before the printed copies will be available) so we can gain maximum benefit from our presenters:

www.dbh.govt.nz/guidance-on-repairs-after-earthquake

While this guidance will be the foucs of our final Canterbury Technical Clearinghouse meeting for 2011, there will also be updates from some of the other geotechnical and structural related disciplines that we have heard from during the year.

Please note that door at the South end of the College of Engineering (i.e. beside E8) is the only door that we can guarantee will be unlocked.  There should be spaces in the adjacent car park by that time of day.

If you would like to attend the pre-meeting social with some drinks and nibbles sponsored by the NZSEE, please notify me indicating the number attending (in the subject line please) before 12:00 on Tuesday 13th.

Finally, you may be overseas or not be able to attend this final meeting so I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your contribution to both the meetings and to restoring our great city, in what has personally been an interesting but exhausting year. If you are in the Southern Hemisphere, I wish you peace as you leave your work behind and reflect upon the year. For those further North, I thank you for your continued interest and assistance in understanding the Canterbury Quakes and recovering from them; and keep warm.

Bruce Deam
Canterbury Technical Clearinghouse Coordinator
