Geosience Soc of NZ & Royal Soc of NZ – The 1st Dinosaur Footprints in NZ
The Wellington Branch of the Geoscience Society of New Zealand and Geoscience Section of the Royal Society of New Zealand present:
“The first record of dinosaur footprints in New Zealand”
By Greg Browne, GNS Science, Lower Hutt
Dinosaur footprints of Late Cretaceous age were recently found in NW Nelson. These are the first dinosaur remains to be found in the South Island, and the first dinosaur footprints to be found in New Zealand. They occur in tidal sediments and were fortuitously preserved, in some cases, by sediments deposited by the next high tide after the animals had walked across the tidal flats. Greg will illustrate what sort of dinosaurs might have formed the footprints, what they might have been eating, and some thoughts about how best to preserve the footprints.
Thurs 1 July, 7:15 pm refreshments for a 7:30 pm start,
Science House, 11 Turnbull St, Thorndon. All welcome.
